Workshops – March 31, 2012

Pre-registration is closed.  Workshops with low enrollment have been cancelled.  There MAY still be room in remaining workshops.  Walk-ins will be welcomed, provided the instructor has enough materials.

All workshops will take place on Saturday, March 31, 2012.
Children are welcome as noted with each workshop.
There are no discounted prices for children.

Morning Workshops 9am-noon

NOTE:  Participants must have iPhone and active iTunes account to purchase apps.  Tech-savvy children are welcome.

More than just a snapshot camera, your iPhone can create art in a fun, creative way. Learn more about your iPhone’s camera and the variety of apps that will help you create artistic photographs of any subject you choose. Instructor Catherine Panebianco has shown her work in the region and nationally.  Her photographs have been published in magazines and books.  She teaches photography in local schools and at Chautauqua Institution.  Location:  3rd on 3rd Gallery.

Instructor:  Kathleen Tenpas;

Age: Interested children age 9 and older are welcome when accompanied by an adult.
You will create several squares of fabric using different techniques with Setacolor fabric paints on 100% cotton.  Please dress for the workshop remembering that this paint will “take” on ANY fabric.  Kathleen is a poet whose work appears in many publications and a fiber artist who has taught in local schools and at Chautauqua Institution.  Location:  Art Room at Infinity

Pieces of You:
Harmonization through Collage
Instructor: Kaitlin Frisicaro;

Age:  Interested children age 10 and up are welcome when they come with an adult.
Through the open-ended medium of meditative collage we will rip, re-act, and layer colored paper and paint while focusing on creative composition and meaningful juxtaposition. The process of collage involves a little imagination but a lot more intuition, allowing you to discover deeper parts of yourself through visual manifestation.  Materials provided will include 8″ x 10″ piece of fine arts paper, scraps of unique papers, a collection of vintage imagery from books and magazines dating from the 40s-70s, Modge Podge, brushes and other mixed media. A variety of pre-cut mats will also be provided so that you can mat your work to bring home and frame.  Instructor Kaitlin Frisicaro is a recent graduate of SUNY Fredonia with a concentration in drawing and painting.  She is currently employed as an art specialist with People, Inc.  Location:  Infinity Art Room

Afternoon Workshops 2-5pm

CANCELLED (due to low enrollment) Introduction to Japanese Traditional Painting. $25
Instructor: Hiromi Katayama;

Age:  Interested children are welcome if accompanied by an adult.
A native of Ibarki, Japan, Hiromi studies in the MFA painting program at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania having already earned a BFA in Japanese Traditional Painting from Joshibi University of Art and Design.  In this workshop, Hiromi will share traditional Japanese pigments and techniques which she employs in her own artwork.  Location:  Art Room at Infinity

Instructor:  Barbara Fox;
Maximum Enrollment: 10
Minimum age:  15
All materials will be provided for this class with nationally recognized water colorist Barbara Fox who teaches all over the country, most recently in San Diego, CA, and designs for the U.S. Mint!  Don’t miss this chance to work with her right here in Jamestown.

Image Transfer.  $30
Instructor: Toni Kelly;
Maximum enrollment: 15
Age:  interested children age 9 and up are welcome if accompanied by an adult.
Students will experiment with at least five different transfer methods using acrylic mediums and rubbing alcohol and a new transfer method that does not require any mediums. Transfers will be made onto paper, fabric and canvas.  All materials will be provided, plus students will go home with some materials for more experimenting on their own.  Toni lives and works in Erie PA and is active in the arts community of Northwestern Pennsylvania.  Her work has been published in magazines and books including Artful Blogging which featured a story about her beautiful blog.  Location:  Infinity Art Room
